Questions to Ask the Interviewer

recruitment workers conducting an interview

Interview preparation is an essential part of a successful recruitment campaign. At the end of most job interviews, you may be asked if you have any questions of your own. Getting this part of the interview can mean the difference between getting the job or not. Not only should they be well thought out, but also relevant to the position. So for rec2rec recruitment, you need to ask questions that relate to how you interact with clients, candidates and your team. So what sort of questions should you ask at this stage?

About the Company

Does the company focus more on clients or candidates?

How is the company structured?

What are the future plans for the company/department?

What sort of growth has the company seen in recent years?

About the Role

What training is provided?

What is the scope for progression?

How is performance measured?

What are the targets to meet in the role?

About the team

How many people are in the team?

Are there competing teams within the company?

What you should NOT ask

When asking questions in an interview, it is essential that you make it clear that you promote yourself as an asset. Asking the wrong question can do more harm than good. For example, asking questions that a quick Google search could easily answer will make you appear lazy and unprepared.

Similarly, asking the right question in the wrong way will make you look unprofessional and will make you appear unsuitable for sales situations. For example, asking about the scope for progression within the company is good as it shows ambition and potential loyalty. Asking when you’re likely to get promoted may seem to be the same, but it actually makes you look greedy and big-headed.

Some questions simply make you appear unreliable, which include:

·         Do I get sick pay?

·         How long is lunch?

·         Can I work from home?

·         What’s the policy on being late?
